Cette paire de candélabres en bronze finement ciselé et doré à l’or d’époque Napoléon III vers 1860. Reposant sur des pieds toupies délicatement perlés et une terrasse circulaire moulurée, chaque pièce se dresse sur une base tripode élargie ornée de volutes enroulées se terminant par de petites acanthes stylisées. Des cartouches et panneaux appliqués, posés sur un fond clair de pierre dure en onyx – présentent des trophées ornés de flambeaux, des palmettes, des ailes déployées et diverses feuilles lancéolées, tous soulignés d’encadrements perlés, de moulures godronnées et de frises de perles qui structurent harmonieusement l’ensemble.
Above this richly architectural base rises a composite central shaft reminiscent of an antique baluster. It begins with a flared foot embellished with scrolling foliage and swags, and extends into a gadrooned baluster-shaped vase encircled by a beaded molding. This supports a cylindrical drum of white onyx held between geometric mounts forming stepped handles, reminiscent of ancient amphorae and kraters. Sculptures of water leaves, veined foliate leaves, small rosettes, and lambrequins discreetly punctuate this area, reinforcing the verticality and nobility of the design.
La partie supérieure déploie un bouquet de cinq lumières, dont quatre bras latéraux et une lumière sommitale. Les bras, formant de larges volutes contournées et symétriques, sont ciselés de feuillages raffinés et rythment l’élévation avec leurs nœuds sphériques perlés et leurs tiges cannelées. Chacun porte une coupelle circulaire bordée de perles surmontée d’un binet godronné en forme de calice renflé, orné de canaux verticaux qui s’amincissent vers la tige. La lumière centrale domine l’ensemble, couronnée d’un motif d’inspiration militaire et sacrée composé de petites flèches pyramidales, de pinacles en goutte et d’un nœud annelé, rappelant les pointes de lance, les obélisques miniatures ou les ornements de temples antiques. L’ensemble se caractérise par une symétrie impeccable, une richesse d’ornementation maîtrisée et une grande rigueur architecturale. Le décor mêle acanthes, palmettes, rinceaux, feuilles d’eau, motifs godronnés, cannelures, perles, oves et dards, consoles, cartouches et panneaux appliqués, tous parfaitement exécutés dans un bronze doré à l’or d’une exceptionnelle qualité. L’association du métal doré à la pierre blanche crée un contraste noble et lumineux.

We do not use the term “Restoration”, which implies a significant transformation or major repair that modifies an object’s authenticity or original appearance. Each object is completely dismantled, then thoroughly cleaned part by part; our cleaning technique restores shine without adversely affecting the gold. We then put the clock back together, returning all the various parts to their origin location, as well as all the nuts and screws. Subsequently, the item is inspected to ensure it is perfectly even, symmetrical, and smooth, etc.
The clock’s movement undergoes a complete overhaul; it is totally dismantled, cleaned and each individual part is polished. The duration of this procedure affects the shine: we prefer to obtain a brilliant shine, in keeping with the gilding of the object. To increase the strength and quality of the gears, we apply a very important procedure, known as bouchonnage, to correct for wear accumulated over years of operation, consisting in the placing cork of stoppers in any pivot holes that have become deformed by wear. After the clock has been completely reassembled, it is tested over a long period of time to ensure that the movement, as well as the hour and half-hour strikes, are operating correctly.
