Description
This gilt-bronze wall clock, dating from the Napoleon III period around 1860, in the Louis XV style, modeled after Julien Le Roy in Paris (1686-1759), perfectly illustrates the elegance and decorative richness of Parisian clockmaking during the transitional period between the Louis XV and Louis XVI styles.
The overall design is divided into three harmoniously hierarchical sections: the upper section, the central body, and the base. The upper section is crowned by a covered vase. This vase, with its gadrooned body and sculpted seed finial, is flanked by two openwork lateral rings that enhance its decorative character while evoking classical influences.
It rests on a quadrangular base with clean lines, decorated with a band finely ornamented with beaded or ovoid motifs, a characteristic feature of the transitional style. The body of the clock adopts a curved and undulating form, typical of the Louis XV style. The circular dial, in white enamel, offers a dual reading thanks to Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic numerals for the minutes. The delicately openworked hands, with their rocaille motifs, demonstrate particularly refined chasing work.
The entire piece is set within a molded mount that embraces the curve of the clock case. On either side, lateral niches are pierced with openwork grilles; these decorative panels create a play of light and shadow through symmetrical motifs evoking stylized leaves or palmettes, providing visual breathing room within the composition.
Below the dial, an openwork opening echoes this same decorative vocabulary, integrated into a rectangular panel framed by moldings. This openwork decoration reinforces the feeling of lightness while emphasizing the graceful verticality of the whole. The sculpted decoration consists primarily of foliage, acanthus leaves, scrolls, and rocaille volutes, striking examples of the Louis XV taste for supple and natural forms.
As the eye travels downward, these ornaments soften and become more fluid, guiding the gaze towards the lower section. The lamp base forms a slender console, decorated with finely chiseled acanthus leaves and harmonious curves. It terminates in a sculpted pendant in the shape of an ornate teardrop, which lends the clock a final touch of elegance and perfect visual balance.
Original movement without modification, hour and half-hour strike on an old bell.
The wall hook is thick and very solid.

Our items mainly stem from the inheritance of objects, preciously looked after over numerous generations. There is a stringent selection process for each object ensuring perfect authenticity and the optimal amount of gilding
We do not use the term “Restoration”, which implies a significant transformation or major repair that modifies an object’s authenticity or original appearance. Each object is completely dismantled, then thoroughly cleaned part by part; our cleaning technique restores shine without adversely affecting the gold. We then put the clock back together, returning all the various parts to their origin location, as well as all the nuts and screws. Subsequently, the item is inspected to ensure it is perfectly even, symmetrical, and smooth, etc.
The clock’s movement undergoes a complete overhaul; it is totally dismantled, cleaned and each individual part is polished. The duration of this procedure affects the shine: we prefer to obtain a brilliant shine, in keeping with the gilding of the object. To increase the strength and quality of the gears, we apply a very important procedure, known as bouchonnage, to correct for wear accumulated over years of operation, consisting in the placing cork of stoppers in any pivot holes that have become deformed by wear. After the clock has been completely reassembled, it is tested over a long period of time to ensure that the movement, as well as the hour and half-hour strikes, are operating correctly.
